Electro-acupuncture is used to treat pain and muscle spasm, to stimulate "qi" production in certain areas of the body, and to facilitate a stronger movement of "qi" than can be acquired from just needles alone.

Ginna uses three different forms of electrical stimulation: TENS units connected to the acupuncture needles, Alpha-stim micro-current stimulation, and a Power Point Pro electrical point stimulator wand.

The TENS unit is connected to two acupuncture needles along one side of spine and is used to treat muscle spasms, nerve pain, and loss of sensation, strength, or function. It is the most aggressive type of treatment provided and is mostly used in cases of acute pain.

The Alpha-stim micro-current stimulation is used with pads, not needles. It is very compatible with the bodies' own natural energy currents; and is therefore safe for use on the head and neck, and crossing the spinal cord. Ginna uses it for spinal and disk pathology pain patterns, headaches, and nerve pain in the neck and shoulder. She had a great personal experience using the Alpha-stim after her ACL knee surgery. It also comes with ear clips that have tested well in treating depression, insomnia, and addiction.

The Power Point Pro can be used in small areas of inflammation like elbow tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, or plantar fasciitis; and to spot treat Trigger Points. It is a great alternative for children and patients who are afraid of needles.
